Trench Crusade Painting Competition - Rushed, but Done

After several frantic hours, I managed to finish my entry for the Trench Crusade Painting Competition. I had been planning this for about a month, but the bulk of this was painted the day before entries were due (my day job has not been kind to me these past few months).

Check out my entry here.

Video coming soon - this was a good learning experience for me.

Soon...

I've been very busy recently, but expect some interesting videos in the pipeline.

On a completely unrelated note, check out this Hell Knight from Trench Crusade!

Update and Future Plans

Hello all!

My next planned video is a tutorial for my custom Stormhost, the Northern Crowns. I wanted to make it a two-parter, one for the basic infantry and one for characters

I started work on an old Lord-Castellant for the character portion, but the footage was nearly unusable and the paintjob itself is underwhelming. The model itself still a WIP, but I might go back and start from scratch. The airbrushing was subpar and I was trying out some modifications to the scheme that didn't turn out quite right.

I am having a lot of trouble capturing footage, especially of me airbrushing. I end up having to hold the brush very close at an awkward angle that leaves me nearly blind to what I'm doing. I'm trying out a new setup and I hope that footage in future videos will be better, but I will have to go back and re-record with a different model.

On the plus side, I was digging around in my Stormcast bin and I found several of the easy-to-build Vindictors, which will make a good candidate for the infantry model. I also want to do a comparison with a Hammers of Sigmar Vindictor and talk about where the idea for my scheme came from, so that'll be fun.

I normally don't use an all-over wash for this scheme, but I decided to try out an oil wash. The problem is, I rushed the drying time with a hair dryer, and these older models don't have as many deep panel lines as something like Space Marines, so I got unsightly blotches everywhere. I haven't decided if I'm going to start over yet, but I'll at least have to re-record the footage.

The Grots Are Done!

Just finished the tester models for my Hobgrot Slittaz. This was my first time trying this super-saturated effect, and I think it turned out well. I was trying to paint these a little faster (I do have 17 more, after all), and get some nice contrast for the table. I think it went well, I'm brainstorming some modifications for when I paint the remaining models in the unit.

Video tutorial coming soon! I wanted to get it done for the new year, but work and holiday celebrations got in the way. Keep an eye out over the next few weeks!

Merry Grotmas! (and content preview)

Happy holidays to everyone! This Christmas, I decided to treat myself to an old AoS Dominion box that has been languishing in my local game store for years. I was planning to cover some Kill Teams for my first few videos (you may have seen my Hierotek Circle scheme already), but the Kruleboyz in the box have really captured me. I already have Orks for 40K, but I'm always eager to paint some more!

I want to really push the contrast on these minis to make them pop on the tabletop - my goal is to get a very saturated effect. I like the idea of the Orruks proper being stealthy guerrilla fighters in drab colors while the Hobgrots are a bright yellow-green to distract their opponents and draw fire (about the only thing grots are good for!) Look out for a super-saturated Hobgrot Slittaz tutorial in the next few weeks, followed by some Gutrippaz with bright shields.
